My Pets

This is Bo. She was our dog for seven years. A friend found her on the street and my husband rescued her. She had many lovable nicknames – among these were Bodee and Bo-Dee-Oh-Dee-Oh (I named the ranch after her in "Lasso Lou and Cowboy McCoy").

One of my favorite Bo stories is how I tried to train her to stop sleeping on the couch. At a flea market, I bought a gadget known as a “Snappy Trainer.” It looked like a giant plastic mouse trap and would fly up into the air whenever it was touched. One night I put it on the couch. The next morning I found Bo, asleep on the couch, on top of the Snappy Trainer! Still, I persevered.

She didn't care much for the telephone – in those days we had large console-like phones – and ours had a very long cord so that I could reach from the living room to the kitchen and talk while I cooked. Occasionally I pulled too tight on the cord and the phone slipped off the table making quite a racket. Ah-ha, I thought. I’ll put that on the couch to encourage her to sleep elsewhere.

Can you guess what I found the next morning? Bo asleep on the phone on top of the couch. After that I gave up and put a sheet over the couch in case she wanted to hop up for a snooze.

Bo was a great friend and I’m looking forward to the day when we get another buddy like Bo-Dee-Oh-Dee-Oh.
